What happens first?

Consultation

During your consultation for dermal fillers, your practitioner will assess your facial anatomy, skin quality, and areas of concern to determine if dermal fillers are the right treatment for you. There are a few different treatment options for fillers – At Regency Eye Hospital, we use two dermal filler brands, Restylane or Juvéderm, which are a crystal-clear gel made from stabilised non-animal hyaluronic acid and water.

Your practitioner will take time to explain how dermal fillers work, the injection process, and what results you can expect to achieve, as well as covering the risks and potential side effects for this procedure.

Depending on the patient, there may also be pre-op instructions such as avoiding blood thinning medication, alcohol and certain supplements.

You will leave your consultation with a treatment plan outlining the areas to be treated, the amount of filler required and an expected timeline for recovery.

The gel is delivered into the facial tissues by injection, with needle or flexible cannula. This enhances your look by restoring volume loss in most facial areas. These dermal fillers have an excellent safety track record and are FDA approved.

The gel gives natural volume to smooth away the appearance of lines and create fuller lips. The treatment takes approximately 20-30 minutes.

8 tips for safe and speedy recovery after dermal fillers.

Refrain from touching or applying pressure to the treated area for at least 6 hours after the injection to prevent the filler from shifting or spreading to unintended areas.

You can drive after the treatment, as long as your vision is unaffected.

Side effects range from common, temporary side effects like bruising and swelling to rare, serious complications like infections, skin necrosis, or even blindness, emphasising the importance of choosing experienced injectors and being aware of potential issues.

Refrain from engaging in strenuous activities, or excessive heat exposure for at least 24-48 hours after receiving dermal fillers to minimise swelling and bruising.
Do not apply make up for 24 hours after your treatment. This will reduce the risk of infection from extra contact.
Try to sleep on your back to prevent extra pressure on the treated area. Sleeping on your back with your head elevated can help reduce swelling and promote better circulation.
Attend all follow-up appointments to monitor your progress, address any concerns, and assess the results of the dermal filler treatment. You may require additional treatments or adjustments to achieve the desired outcomes.

Follow your post-care instructions provided by your practitioner, such as avoiding alcohol, blood-thinning medications that may interfere with the healing process.

Apply a cold compress to the treated area to reduce swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Use a clean cloth or ice pack wrapped in a thin, clean towel and apply it gently for short intervals.

Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins from your body and promote faster healing. Staying hydrated can also help improve the overall appearance of your skin.
