Treatment

Implantable contact lenses

At Regency Eye Hospital, we provide safe and efficient eye treatments to optimise your vision.

What happens first?

A consultation is the vital first step to all of our treatments. During your appointment, you will be introduced to our amazing team, explore the facilities at the private clinic, meet your surgeon and have your eyes examined.

Everything we learn during the examination will help your surgeon to provide a considered recommendation. If you are not an eligible candidate for implantable lens surgery, we will recommend an alternative based on your unique requirements. We encourage you to ask any questions you can think of to allow you to feel comfortable and be completely informed about your treatment.

Reassurance

It is very important to us that our patients fully understand their options and never feel pressured to undergo a specific treatment. We will answer all your questions honestly and consider any recommendations carefully. Deciding to undergo surgery requires careful consideration and we encourage you to take time to think it over and discuss it with family and friends if you wish.

For patients with astigmatism, toric lenses will be necessary. There are versions available for long and short-sightedness as well as multifocal options.

Treatment options

This surgery is safe and effective, and we have a 95% satisfaction rate among our patients. The procedure does nothing to change the anatomy of the eye and can be safely reversed.

Implantable lens surgery is a safe and painless procedure. The lens is implanted through a tiny incision in the eye, which will heal naturally.

During the procedure, your surgeon will dilate your pupil using eye drops and then use anaesthesia to completely numb the area. Once your surgeon is sure your eye is completely numb, they will make the tiny incision and carefully implant the lens. With the procedure complete, antibiotic eye drops will be applied to minimise the risk of infection and a clear plastic shield will be placed over the eye to protect it.

After the surgery, you will be escorted to the recovery area where you can enjoy refreshments and look forward to your new vision.

How does implantable lens surgery work?

Unlike other surgeries, implantable lens surgery doesn’t remove the eye’s natural lens or change the cornea – it works by inserting a second lens into the eye. This allows the patients to have long-lasting corrected vision. For various reasons, some patients are ineligible for laser eye treatment. The good news is there are safe and effective alternatives like implantable lens surgery. This procedure can correct vision for people with myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (far-sightedness) or astigmatism.

Everything you need to know about recovery and aftercare. To enjoy optimal vision after surgery, we aim to support our patients through a safe and comfortable recovery.

Eight tips for safe and speedy recovery after Implantable Contact Lense surgery

Even though it might be uncomfortable, don’t rub or press your eye during recovery. This will allow it to heal quicker.
Avoid any kind of strenuous activity, such as exercise or contact sports, to make sure your eye isn’t knocked or damaged.

Try to stay away from environments that are dusty or smoky, to reduce the getting something in your eye.

During your recovery, don’t go in the swimming pool, as it could loosen or dissolve the incisions made during the surgery, and introduce bacteria.
The best way to improve your recovery is to rest your eyes whenever possible. It all helps!
While you can look at your phone or watch TV after surgery, it’s recommended you do so in moderation, so you don’t over-exert your eyes.
Washing around your eye with cooled boiled water and cotton wool will help reduce the risk of infection.
Use the eye drops provided, as instructed by your surgeon, to aid your eye’s recovery.
